The Robi Rolling Library, designed by Claudia Miller, is a unique and innovative concept that brings books and knowledge to small villages in a mobile and accessible way. This mobile public library is housed in a truck and features special acrylic shelves with illuminated LED edges that can light up in the dark. The design of the truck's interior is inspired by the idea of letting one's mind wander while reading, with the back of the truck resembling a fantasy world with no right angles and lines that become more imaginative.
What sets the Robi Rolling Library apart is its unconventional shelf design. The shelves start as parallel, then go up and down, creating a sense of mystery and history. The illuminated LED edges add a touch of magic and create a captivating atmosphere for readers. The use of acrylic engineering stone for the shelves allows for the possibility of illuminating the frontlines, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the library.
The dimensions of the truck are 12 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 3.65 meters in height, providing ample space for books and a comfortable reading environment. The project was realized by the design team, Design LINIE ZWEII, which includes Claudia Miller and Steffen Neidhardt. The handover of the Robi Rolling Library took place in May 2011, after two years of design and construction.
The Robi Rolling Library has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2012 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The Robi Rolling Library stands out for its technical characteristics and its ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
